If you have a mind for trivia, try out for the Academic Bowl Team. The team needs eight students who can answer challenging questions in the areas of history, science, math, language arts, geography, sports, entertainment and current events. | The art club will work on projects of an artistic nature to produce works in several media. We will do drawing, painting, sculpture, and will be installing art work throughout the school.

| Extended learning is a Reading and Math based club which meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:45 until 5:45. Students who participate in this program are recommended for it based on their CRCT scores from the previous year. The focus of the program is 45 minutes to study reading and 45 minutes to study math. Letters for eligible students have already been sent home. The program will begin on September 17 and run through April 17. There will be a late bus to transport students home at 5:45. Students must have a signed bus permission form in order to ride the late bus.

| Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA-PBL) is the premier student business association. Our mission is to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs.
Members can earn recognition on the local, state, and national levels! If you are interested in developing leadership, communication, and team skills, or simply looking for an organization to meet and network with others at the local and state levels, then FBLA-Middle Level is the organization for you. Are you interested in learning about the environment and helping others? Then the SSMS Green Team is the club for you! The Green Team participates in several yearly events including Rivers Alive! A local river cleanup project; Arbor Day, a day long activity where students will plant trees and participate in environmental activities on campus; and Graffiti Hurts, a program to learn about and do something about graffiti in our community, and several other projects. Students also participate in Adopt-a-Road to help beautify our campus. There will also be several contests throughout the year. The club will meet every other Thursday at 7:45. | This is an all-grade-auditioned group with Thursday afternoons being a fraction of the entire commitment. Students must be ready to perform at a moments notice. They perform regularly throughout the first semester for school and community events.

The SSMS Junior Beta Club is a non-profit leadership, service club composed of students with a 90.0 or better grade point average (GPA) who display good character, leadership, and achievement qualities. Members donate a certain number of volunteer hours to provide a better quality of life for the less fortunate. In addition, members must complete 13 hours of service work during the school year. Be prepared to give extra time on Saturdays and after school when necessary, both to complete service hours or to participate in community outreach programs in the Sandy Springs area. This group is a team of responsible students who are chosen by their peers to represent them on school matters and to perform community service projects at our school and in our area. | Open to all students interested in preparing for and participating in the Optimist International Oratorical Contest. For this contest held each spring, students prepare and deliver a speech on an assigned topic. The duration of the speech is from 4 to 5 minutes. This year's theme is "WHY ME.....WHY NOT?" Winners at the club and district levels receive savings bonds and/or scholarships. Students will improve their writing and speaking skills leading to greater self confidence. Meetings will be after school, held as needed, to prepare and practice their speeches.

| So you think you can dance? Come audition for the SSMS dance team. Routines will be primarily a mix of hip-hop/jazz dancing and will be choreographed by Ms. Schechter. The dance team will perform at various events throughout the year, at school and outside of school. Auditions will be open to 7th and 8th graders with passing grades and good discipline. Members must be extremely dedicated and must be able to attend and be picked up from practices on time after school. Practices will be every Thursday from 3:50-4:50. Throughout the year there may be other activities along with practices that you will need to attend. This could include meetings, fundraisers and field trips. There is no cost to be a member of the dance team; however, there could be a cost for any future field trips that may take place. If you are extremely dedicated, well behaved with passing grades and enjoy dancing, see Ms. Schechter in room D117 for information. Let's see who can really dance ☺

| YouthAct is a community service organization sponsored by the Dunwoody Sunset Rotary Club. The club members participate in community service projects and fund raising activities. If you like science and you like to compete and work with other like-minded students, then Science Olympiad is for you! Not only will you have a lot of fun, you will gain experience in the scientific method of testing theories and you will prepare yourself for high school and college projects.
